Samsung LED TVs - Models, Prices & TechUntil recently consumers had to choose between Flat Panel, LCD, or Plasma Televisions. The choice was not easy. The new LED breed of slim televisions from Samsung has made the choice tougher - one more TV technology to research and compare. Samsung LED TVs are being hailed as one of the world's thinnest and clearest televisions. Interestingly, the LED TVs use the LCD (Liquid Chrystal Display) screens used in LCD televisions. However, instead of using the flourescent backlight the LED TVs use a gamut of light emitting diaodes (LEDs) for bringing the colours alive on the TV. The LEDs are arranged across all the four edges of the screen - a reason why the TVs are also referred as edge-lit LED TVs. A light guide having a series of light refractors sends the light from LEDs, through a series of colour and polarizing filters, towards the middle of the TV screen producing an uniform picture quality. Picture Quality The Samsung LED TV, as per the company, produces the same picture quality as that of an LCD TV albeit using much less energy. Sony also uses LED TV technology however the LEDs used in Samsung TVs produce white light as opposed to multi-coloured in Sony. Samsung claims that white LEDs are more energy efficient and that they help in producing purer colour quality. Samsung uses its Mega Contrast Ratio technology to bring out all the shades of gray coulor. The Wide Colour enhancer technology enables the Samsung LED TV to display a wider range of natural colours and more vibrant pictures. The 100Hz-200Hz motion plus reduces the edge blurs in fast moving objects. Design Samsung is taking a cue from Apple - it's not just about what's on the screen that should look elegant but the beast supporting the screen should also be beautiful. Samsung LED TV is made up of a single seamless piece instead of folding and joining a multitude of pieces where the smoothness is lost in the joints. The TV is just 1.2 inch thick which makes it razor thin from the side view. Green TV Technology Going green is the flavour of 2009. Samsung claims that its latest LED TVs use 40% lesser energy and are highly eco friendly. The TV frame is made of recycleable bezel. The LEDs don't use any mercury therefore consume lesser energy and emit lesser CO2. Samsung LED TV Models in India Here are the four LED TV models available from Samsung India.
