A good air conditioner can make your summers pleasant. This blog offers tips and advice on buying that perfect air-conditioner for your room.

The importance of heating and cooling products is mounting worldwide every year as the mercury levels chase extremes. The winters are becoming cooler, and summers hotter. Comfortable living today demands safe, economical, and environment friendly heating and cooling systems. Learn Air Conditioners Basics before reading on.

Manufactures, around the world, are rolling out heating and air conditioning systems that can function efficiently in ever expanding temperature ranges. Consumers have plenty to choose from but the decision making is anything but simple. More brands, more models, newer technologies, growing safety standards – a Heater or Air Conditioner is no longer a simple buy. Whether you are buying a  heating and air conditioning system for commercial or residential use, it requires careful comparison of all available HVAC options, their features and specifications, prices, installation, and maintenance overheads.

The heating and cooling systems are often referred as HVAC which stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. The HVAC system is an integrated solution to control the room temperature, air quality, and humidity. These HVAC systems generally fall in two categories – Central and Local.

Local HVAC Systems

A local heating and cooling system is one that's meant for controlling the temperature of a specific area. The Window Air Conditioners, Floor Standing AC's, and Split Air Conditioners are all examples of local HVAC systems. The duct-free split systems also fall in this category.

Compared to central AC's, local AC's are designed to control the temperature of smaller areas. Since Local AC's serve smaller regions, their capacity range is also smaller than the central AC's. Local heating and air conditioning systems can be fixed to a window or wall or they can be completely portable like Floor Standing AC's. Because a Local AC has to be placed/installed in the area that it's supposed to condition, manufactures ought to be give it very creative design. One that makes these heating and air conditioning systems look part of the room not some distracting objects. Local AC's must also not consume too much space, shouldn't be noisy, shouldn't leak and destroy the walls, windows or the floor of the rooms. These are just some of the things a buyer would consider while buying a Local heater and air conditioner.

Central HVAC Systems

A central heating and cooling solution produces hot or cool air at a central area and then fans or distributes it out to other areas in the building. The central unit may use one of the many technologies available to heat or cool the air. Generally this treated air is then transported from the central location to various other parts of the building using a duct system which is also referred as air distribution system.

The quality of the duct system is equally important. If the ducts are not connected properly, not insulated effectively, or are not clean they can deteriorate not only the efficiency of the system but also the air quality. Whereas quality duct system ensures more constant temperature across various rooms, improved air quality, lower electricity/utility bills, and lesser maintenance cost.

The size and the capacity of a central HVAC system varies depending upon the area it needs to heat or cool. Central HVAC systems are most prevalent in developed nations whereas in the developing world the central systems are generally limited to commercial use.
