Which AC is right for MeAir Conditioners are the most comforting buddies in the piercing summers. A Coke or Pepsi can, or a cone of Mother Dairy ice-cream, only provide a temporary break. While you still want to thank them as you take their coolness down your throat, you cannot rely solely upon them for fighting the summer that only gets fiercer every year. For a constant relief from the heat, you need an AC. True that summers in India are getting severe and one has to have an AC to survive them comfortably. But what kind of AC is right for you? Before you go and buy an Air Conditioner, it’s important that you find an accurate answer to your question. Fortunately, the question is not all that hard. Air Conditioners are no longer as expensive that you have to think hundred times before buying one. But they are also not easily replaceable – you need professional help to install or install an AC. Therefore it’s important that you know your requirements very well to know what AC would meet those best. Know Where You Live We all know where we live. But knowing the environmental conditions of the place is critical to choosing the right AC. You should know things like – 1) average minimum and maximum temperature of the place in summers and 2) average humidity level. For example, the AC requirements for someone living in Ahmedabad or Jaipur will be very different from someone living in New Delhi. If the maximum temperature can easily touch or cross 45 degree celcius, you want an AC that can function efficiently at that temperature level. If you live in a place where humidity levels are high, you want to buy an Air Conditioner that is highly energy efficient. Know the Size of the Room When you go to a showroom or online retailer to purchase an AC, one thing that you absolutely have to carry is your room dimensions where you want to install the Air Conditioner. For example a .5 ton AC would be sufficient for a room of about 100 sq ft size. For something between 100 and 200 sq ft, you need to buy an AC with at least 1 ton capacity. Anything bigger than will require 1.5 ton or more air conditioning unit. Basically, larger the area you want to cool, more capacity the AC should have. Know your Walls, Doors, & Windows Don’t we love windows? Well, AC’s might hate them. If a large area of room walls is glass or open doors and windows, it would be difficult to cool it down as the room boundaries aren’t well defined. You would essentially be trying to cool a larger area than you think. Therefore more windows you have in the room, larger capacity you will need in your air conditioner. Know Features & Technologies that Matter As the summer draws near, AC brands start rolling out newer models using newer technologies. What you knew a year ago suddenly becomes obsolete. You don’t need to understand all the technologies and the buzz words that the AC brands throw at you as part of their marketing campaign. Remember, if it sounds foreign, it’s not for you. You should know basic advantages of having things such as in-built stabilizer, adjustable airflow direction, sleep timer, and turbo cooling. If something does not make sense, ask the store owner for help. Just don’t get bought into something without understanding it. Know your Budget Finally, and most importantly, know your budget. You can buy an AC anywhere between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 50,000. You need to know where your budget line is. While you want to buy something that lasts you at least a few years, you don’t want to get tempted by features that add no real value to your specific needs. Find more tips in TolMol AC Buying Guides
