Non-stick cookware offers a unique set of advantages which are the primaryreason for its immense popularity among the people. The primary advantagethat non-stick cookware offer is that food does not stick to the pans whilecooking. Further, with the help of non-stick cookware, food can be cookedby taking considerably less amount of fat than that would be required if onewere to cook the food in a normal cooking vessel. This is a great boon forthe fat-conscious people as almost one-fourth population of the world isobese today. Particularly, the Indians are more prone to obesity because oftheir genetic structure. Less fat means less cholesterol. And less cholesteroldirectly implies the reduced occurrence of heart related problems and thegood health of veins and arteries that carry blood across the entire humanbody. But, there are some points to consider while purchasing non-stickcookware. Further, we would also discuss some points regarding the use andmaintenance of non-stick items.
First, look for an item which is of good quality and refrain from buying cheapproducts. Cheap products may look attractive for a short period of time, butthey quickly lose their sheen and more often than not, the customer regretspurchasing inferior quality goods in the first place. Good nonstick cookwarewill have several layers of non-stick coating. Decent pots and pans haveat least three layers, and the best will have up to seven. This will ensure asmoother surface and longer lasting pans.
Second, don’t use metal utensils on non-stick cookware because the non-stick coating can be easily scratched off. When the pan is scratched off a bit,it then wears off fairly quickly. Replace the pan when the coating shows anysigns of wear.
Third, never put non-stick pan in a broiler. The temperature there is too highthere. This will ruin your pan. The non-stick coating cannot withstand suchintense heat and the coating disintegrates.
Fourth, do not wash non-stick cookware in the dishwasher. The harshchemicals used in the dishwasher will corrode the surface and the pan willbecome useless faster than you think. Instead, wash the pan with yourhand. It’s quite easy. Non-stick cookware cleans easily because food doesnot stick to it in the first place.
Lastly, put your pets and small animals, if any (particularly birds) away fromyour non-stick pan while you are cooking. It has been reported that non-stick cookware while cooking releases flames which may be detrimental tothe health of birds, etc.
