Front Load vs. Top Load Washing Machines
When buying a washing machine, a consumer is generally confused as to buy a front loader or a top loader. Both the types of washers are very popular among homemakers and have their own advantages and disadvantages. Here we’ll make comparisons between these two types of loaders and help you to make an informed decision. First let us discuss the technique in the front loading washing machines. A drum is fitted which washes and spins the clothes. There is no agitator inside them and clothes tumble sideways and up and down to give the best wash. On the contrary in the top loaders the washer tub sits vertically and there is an agitator which helps to move the clothes sideways to wash them. The water usage is more than in top loader as the entire load has to be submerged in water, while the front loader uses only one-third of the amount of water used by the former. It sprays the water into the loader, washes the laundry, rinses the clothes drains the dirty water and spins the clothes. This is because the front loaders use gravity to wash clothes as they tumble sideways and fall down and get submerged in the same level of water. So water efficiency is gained more by the front loader. You can use any regular concentrated detergent in the top loaders while front loaders require low subsiding formulas. Comfort level is more in top loaders as you need not bend to load and unload. If you have health problems such as that of joint pain then the top loader will suit your needs. Another advantage of the top loader is that you can add laundry even after you have pushed the start button. So, if find a couple of clothes laying here and there you can always add laundry as the top loader does not lock the door. This operation is not possible in the front loader as the door is immediately locked after the machine starts working. The door does not open until the washing cycle has been completed. This is a safety mechanism as the water will not spill while the wash is in process and also is a safety measure for children. The front loaders can be easily stacked in beside cabinets and you can easily place a dryer too which are usually front loaders along with it. Top loaders need separate place for them to be stored. Thus, with the above comparison you can decide as to which type of washing machine will suit your need. Author: Bharti Grover More on Home Appliances |
