The digital camera market has changed drastically over the past few years. High resolution cameras which until recently were quite heavy on your wallet have become increasingly affordable these days. Technology is the only thing which gets cheaper with each passing day, I guess. The Kodak M550 features all lean towards the ease of use and automatic shooting. It is small, light, very affordable and specially designed for those who want to dive into the world of digital cameras and still do not want to spend too much. It has 5x optical zoom, a 2.7 inch LCD display and 12.3 mega pixels.

The M550 is small and light weight. The high quality, glossy 2.7 inch LCD display takes much of the rear. Further, the camera's ports and slots are covered by hatches to keep out dust and debris. The gadget is loaded with a dozen buttons which are placed all around the surface of the camera. Among these, one is the ‘share’ button, which allows you to distribute your photos on your social networking sites. For sharing photos and stuff, you first need connect your camera to your laptop or personal computer, install software and configure your email or social networking settings. After performing these tasks for once, you are pretty much ready to share photos with your friends and peers. After one time installation, uploading photographs is simply a single-button task.

Automatic shooting is made extremely convenient with Kodak M550. The default 'smart capture' mode does everything it can to identify and adjust the camera to various shooting environments, without you having to lift a finger. Face-recognition and face-detection features are also present, and you can pre-tag up to 25 friends and family members. Further, the gadget’s 5x optical zoom length is slightly above average. It has a wide lens (about 28mm equivalent) which is suitable for taking group photographs also.

The smart-capture mode is specifically designed people who do not quite a lot of experience of taking quality photos. Surprisingly and interestingly, almost 95% of people who own any sort of camera fit into this category. Obviously, most of us shoot only occasionally. So, companies have designed these automatic shooting modes which limit one’s manual control to virtually nil. In smart-capture mode, the photo provides sufficient detail. Flesh tones look natural and, overall, photos don't suffer from the over-processed look that some budget cameras are guilty of producing. However, the camera's low-light performance isn't especially strong.
