Diwali Fever Catches on in India
Diwali is due next week and the preparations for this lovely festival are in full swing. The mood is joyous and there is happiness all around. Everyone is gearing up to celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. In fact, the preparations begin a month in advance to celebrate the festival better than the previous year. There is a tradition or you can say it is a norm that people get their house painted especially during this time of the year. People clean their houses in and out to welcome the Goddess of wealth Lakhsmi in their homes. Unwanted useless things are thrown out and efforts are made to give home a new and refreshing look. On Diwali day, the whole house is decorated with lights and oil lit lamps grace every nook and corner of the house, rangolis are made in attractive colors which make the house look beautiful like never before. Buying various items of home décor, electronic products ranging from television-(these days plasma TVs and LEDs are fast making their way into a large number of homes), to microwave, mixer-grinders, refrigerators and many more products are purchased mostly during this auspicious time of the year. Shopping is a tradition which every person celebrating Diwali follows with utmost dedication. This includes giving a makeover to the wardrobe. No matter, you buy clothes, throughout the year; it is common that during Diwali people buy new clothes, especially ethnic wear which is worn on Diwali keeping in mind the traditional aspect of the festival. Exchanging gifts too forms an integral part of this festival. Friends, relatives are showered with gifts and socializing becomes an important part of the celebrations. There are arrays of products available in the market which makes for ideal gifts to be presented to a loved one during Diwali. People gift various items ranging from kitchen appliances, home appliances, clothes to others. Sweets too are distributed on this auspicious occasion. These days’ dry fruits which come in attractive packaging are also attracting the attention of people. Thus, spending on the above mentioned items is a must. People save throughout the year to splurge and they do make a budget which will help them to celebrate festival in the most economical yet a fun way. Shopping is done frenetically and the activity becomes even more intense as Diwali approaches. The market is bustling with crowds and online shopping too witnesses a huge boost.
