Diwali for Kids

If you want to see Diwali excitement, take a look at some kids. Why do kids love Diwali? What really excites them? For answering these two questions, we must first know why the mere presence of kids makes any festival more beautiful. Kids are lovely because they are spontaneous. Their innocence stems from the fact they exude spontaneity. Neither they regret the past, nor do they worry about the future. They live in the present and experience each and every moment with all their senses and brains. This is unlike adults whose ability to really feel the thrill of beauty gets diminished because adults are generally only physically present at a place. Mentally, they are regretting the past or planning for the future.

So, it’s natural that the products or ideas which trigger a pleasant stimuli are immediately liked by kids. Bright colours excite them. Want a proof? Kids usually pick the most colourful sweet dish placed on the table. About Diwali, the joy, the liveliness, new clothes, exotic presents, generous love showered upon them by their relatives and friends of parents excites them. The idea of having fun, enjoying festival delicacies and getting prized presents thrills them the most.

One more important factor which is unique to Diwali is Crackers. Kids just love this feature of Diwali. They always wait eagerly for the Pooja to get over so that they may be allowed to burst Crackers. But care should be taken while bursting crackers. Always buy good quality crackers. Also, it’s best if an elder person accompanies them while bursting crackers to avoid any unwanted accident.

Coming to gifts, there is no dearth of options which you might choose from to make Diwali for your kid a memorable experience. Besides designer clothes, it would be best if they get a gift which is of immense use in their daily life. For kids aged between 3-8 new exotic bicycle would be a great idea. Educational games, Barbie dolls, electronic or battery operated cars, board games are also nice for kids aged 3-5. Chocolates, of course, can always accompany whatever gift you choose for your kid.

For kids aged above 12, a new computer would be the best. Computers have become really affordable, thanks to the rapid improvements in technology. For your college going kid, a new bike, scooter (Honda Activa for instance) or a new laptop can be the best choice if your budget allows. I vividly remember that when I was in the 7th grade, my father gifted me a desktop computer on Diwali. It remained the most useful gift for me for quite a few years. Gifts should be fancy, yet sturdy. Fragile gifts usually land in the bin after a couple of days.

Girls remain excited about the Bhai dooj which is the culminating day of the Diwali festival. Arrange for a beautiful present for your daughter as she ties the sacred thread to the wrist of your son. Kids make the world worthwhile to live in. So, you must take care that they do not get hurt in the process of bursting crackers. Small kids should not be allowed to burst crackers. Also, keep your first aid kit fully loaded during the Diwali festival. First aid greatly diminishes the extent of damage done by some minor accident.

Let the kids enjoy themselves…It’s Diwali time, after all.
