Laptops, undoubtedly, are better than desktops. Perhaps, this is the reason that desktops are being gradually replaced by laptops. Laptops offer mobility, compactness and look slick. The true business and professional appeal comes when you have laptop at your disposal so that you can manage your business with it effortlessly. Laptops are a complete package in itself and therefore have the built in mechanism of cooling fans in them so as to keep the laptop cool. The amount of heat generated by a computing device viz. a PC or a laptop is directly proportional to the processor speed. Put more technically, the amount of heat generated is more if the processor of your prized laptop goes through more numbers of clock cycles than its predecessors. Also, the number of applications and the type of applications that are running and the various devices such as sound card, graphics card, etc. also contribute to the factors responsible for heat generation. Laptop heating is entirely normal. The only thing under our control is to direct the heat flow so as to be in a comfortable position from where we do not feel the heat. Toasting syndrome is a disease which is characterized by burns due to prolonged contact with laptop heat. People have the habit of keeping their laptops on their thighs. As a result, the skin comes in direct contact with laptop heat and prolonged contact results in light burns referred to as ‘Toasting Syndrome’. The ill-effects of laptop heating can be kept at bay by following few simple practices. Keeping the laptop at an even base like a table or hard flat surface is a good practice to avoid the risk of skin burns. Using a table also helps maintain a proper posture which is essential if you wish to work at your peak performance for an extended period of time. There is a general saying that one should use his/her bed only while retiring for the night. Further, there are products available that reduce the effective heat exposure of your body parts to a significant extent. These auxiliary devices generally have fans mounted on them and they direct the heat from the heat venting points of the laptop to outer air and away from your body. Further, the cool air circulation around the laptop is improved resulting in lower temperatures around your machine. This is especially useful in tropical countries like India where summers can be extremely demanding on electronic gadgets. The market also has to offer wooden bases for laptops which have vents cut out in them which are aligned with the vents on your machine. Further, they provide with the comfort of keeping your laptop at an angle. Some simple practices with a combination of these gadgets would go a long way in keeping your machine cool.
