Indian Mobile BrandsPerhaps no other part of the globe has witnessed such an explosive growth of the mobile handset market as the Indian subcontinent. The markets in the developed countries (US, Canada, European countries and Australia) are almost already saturated and there is no appreciable perceived growth in terms of the volume sales. But the condition is exactly opposite in India. Since the last decade the growth in the Indian market in terms of the volume sales has shown no sign of stopping. Such was the demand and craze for handsets among all the sections of the society that the local players decided to enter the mobile phone market. (See Made in India Mobile Phones) What advantages do the local players have to offer to the Indian customer? Well, the biggest plus point is that someone who lives in the same environment as you is expected to understand your needs best. The same is true for the cellular handset segment. Local players clearly understood that music, cricket and the habit of bargaining (believe me, this is a unique quality that Indians excel at) are close to the Indian hearts. So, they rolled out attractive handsets with sturdy design and heavier batteries (capable of playing music for extended periods of time) at cheaper rates than the global players like Nokia, Samsung and HTC. Further, the call charges dropped significantly and the introduction of pay-per-second further dropped down the effective call rate. The result was that the handsets made by the local players began competing aggressively with their global counterparts and even started outdoing them in certain areas. Almost everyone who owns a quality handset (Nokia, etc.) must have faced the odd situation where the sound of music on their handset is put to shame by a handset made by the local players. Dual SIM capability of some of their handsets is also a reason behind the success of these Indian brands. Dual SIM mobiles give consumers the option to never go out of network. Further, they help one in keeping the social and professional/business life separate. India made handsets are preferred over their Chinese counterparts because they are more reliable and last longer. Chinese handsets are nothing but cheap trash. Further, they are a craze among the youth owing to the availability of social networking features, huge memory support, great music support, large screen, exciting games and of course, the style factor. Some of the top Indian mobile brands are - Lemon Mobiles, Lava Mobile, !Next, C-Tel, Sigmatel, Usha Lexus, Zen Mobile, Spice Mobiles, Karbonn Mobiles, Micromax Mobiles, Videocon and OnidaIntex. The Indian mobile brands are not only sticking to their basic business – the entry level handsets, but are also entering the smart phone market with a bang! Some have already launched their smart phones while the other are still busy polishing their ready to roll out products in the smart phone segment. Lava is set to launch its smart phone which is expected to have at least a 3.2 inch capacitive touch screen, 800 MHz processor, and probably the latest version of Android (2.3), according to industry reports. They are leaving no stone unturned in giving a stiff competition to the global players. The attractive prices, clever publicity (by cricket icons and Bollywood stars) and good quality of their products is sending shivers down the spine of the global players like Nokia, Samsung, etc. According to a recent report, Nokia has already abandoned hopes of reaching the current quarter’s target of the volume sales. Spice, Karbonn and Lava are well known brands today. Indian made handsets are great in terms of quality and are cost effective too. More on Mobiles
