Nokia has recently announced the launch of its first dual SIM phone in India – Nokia C2. For those of you who are new to dual SIM world, the dual SIM phones allow you to hold two SIMs in your phone so that you can use two numbers using one handset. Nokia conducted an interseting online survey to find out how the mobile users would make use of the dual SIM phones. The survey revealed that the most popular use of the dual SIM phone is to keep one number for personal and other for the business use, without carrying two handsets. With Nokia dual SIM phone, it would be easy to make or receive your calls from two numbers without the need to have two handsets. So you can talk to your boss and your friend, family or the other boss (read wife, if married) from the same phone!

The second most popular use of the dual SIM phone was to get two different calling plans on the two different numbers. For example, your office may provide you a number that has one plan meeting your business needs. And you can sign-up for the other number with a different plan that meets your personal calling needs and budget. The survey revealed that the third most popular use was to use the phone for domestic and the other for international use. If you are a frequent traveler on the international route then this would make a tremendous sense. Often, the international plans are different from various service providers, especially if you are also looking for a data plan. Another popular use of the dual SIM was to use one SIM for browsing (data plan) and other for the basic phone functions like calling and SMS. Many times you get a very good deal from one provider on the data but voice and SMS rates might not be that attractive. The dual SIM would meet that need.  As the mobile users get the choice of using two service providers on the same phone, the service providers would certainly going to further feel the pressure of pricing war. All in all, the dual SIM phones are going to further empower the consumers by providing them choices on plans. For the mobile manufacturers, it offers additional reason to sell new dual SIM handsets to people who already have a phone.
