Can Apple Tablet PC Outsmart Smartphones?Smartphones are hot and so are Netbooks. But come September they may lose all their heat to Tablet PCs. The rumor that Apple is planning to launch a Tablet PC this September has already doubled up. Now the reports, of course unconfirmed, claim that the iPhone maker is planning to bring forth twins. Yes, Richard Doherty, a market researcher told BusinessWeek that Apple is launching two, not just one, Tablet PCs. The launch date is not known but many believe that Apple may unveil the new Tablet computers in its upcoming September keynote event. Apple has been readying its muscles to fire the much awaited salvos. If not in September, the Tablet PCs may hit the stores later this year. The first Table PC is rumored to sport a 6 inch touch screen. It will be used primarily for watching videos, reading books, and for playing video games. It's claimed to be a bigger version of iPod and iPhone. It will potentially use the same OS that iPhone uses, will offer the same magical touch interface, and will let users download and use all those iPhone apps. To add more fun, it will give more real estate to the display. This 6 inch Apple Table PC will be priced at around $700. The second model will be closer to netbooks with bigger screen and probably full MacOS support. While Apple fans can't wait to claim their first Apple Table PC, this yet-to-be-comfirmed and yet-to-be-launched 6 inch Table PC model is already ringing warning bells for companies like Amazon and Nokia. But Tablet PCs aren't new. Manufacturers like ASUS, Dell, HP, and Fujitsu have been selling Tablet PCs for long. Then why so much of noise for Apple Tablet PCs? Well, the fact is that everyone knows (or is scared of) Apple's uncanny art of pushing its new products that consumers never thought they even wanted. It made iPod the device for personal music player. It made iPhone the most desired smartphone. Steve Jobs, Apple's magician, is back at the center of company affairs. Chances are the company will make its Tablet PCs a touch-n-buy success! Amazon's popular book reading device Kindle may turn out to be the first victim. Kindle is nice and affordable but it doesn't let you do much beyond book/news reading. Consumers are likely to jump for Tablet PC that can do book reading and much more. BusinessWeek says that it could eat up up to 60% of Kindle's share. Nokia on the other hand is already losing ground to iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android phones in the smartphone segment. Sensing the sharp nail in Apple Tablet PC that could pierce right through its remaining hold, the company is working on its own Tablet PC in association with the chip maker Intel. But why only competitors, this could impact the sales of both iPhone and iPod too. It will be interesting to see how Apple protects its older star kids from the new tablet babies. Related Links

For watching videos and surfing the web I would prefer a sleek netbook instead. I like Apple, its ipod and iphone but (Sorry Steve!) I can't see you succeed in this new mission. Actually, I hope you are not venturing out to wipe out Smartphones. By: Shubham1006 days ago |
