Can Google Start a Wave?
Google Wave is a brand new communication and collaboration tool from Google that has got the world waiting. It's the brainchild of two brothers, Lars and Jen. Yes, the same duo who gave us Google Maps. The guys are simply genius. If you don't believe me, watch the Google Wave demo. It's amazing! The inventors of Google Wave dare to think beyond traditional email and chat software. They say they designed Wave to be what a 2009 communication and collaboration tool should be. Why keep watching that cryptic "typing..." message when the contact you are chatting with is composing his message? Why not just watch what he's typing as he types it? Sounds like a great idea to me. And those who understand technology would tell you that it's an ambitious idea. But the genius brothers won't settle for anything less challenging. The Google Wave has the potential to change the way we communicate and collaborate. In short Wave is a convergence of GMail, GTalk, and Google Docs. Yes, Picasa (Images) and YouTube (Videos) will also roll into the Wave to make it a single stop communication, media and document sharing tool. Google Wave has many wow factors to it. You start a coversation with a friend, a third friend can join and replay the whole conversation exactly as it took place. You can embed images with a simple drag/drop - no time wasted in looking for menu options to attach/upload. You can read what the person on the other side is typing and start composing your response without having to wait for the complete message to arrive - again, that to me is time saving and close to real conversations. When we walk over to a friend and open a discussion in real world we can interrupt, we can nod in agreement or disagreement, we can listen to multiple people talking, and we can start thinking about our response much before they are done. Google Wave works on the same principle. What I liked most about the tool is that I could, if not immediately sometime in its future, draw a diagram on my computer screen that my other team members can comment, alter, add on to - real time from their desks. It opens up amazing possibilities. Google is still testing Wave. It's currently open to select trusted testers only. The public launch is likely to happen in 2010. But that won't be without challenges. GMail as we know has had a rocky ride in terms of downtimes. While the service is extremely popular, it hasn't been painless for enterprise users. Google Wave, like other Google services will come free and for business users it may come with some cost. Google does not lack hardware infrastructure to support such a service but to ensure the availability when zillions of waves starts off of all parts of the planet, it will be fun to watch how the Silicon Valley star fairs. I cannot wait to ride on Google Wave!

Waooo, it seems like a dream or a fairy tale. I feel so lucky that I'm witnessing this technology growth. These two brothers are really thinking out of the box. Looking forward to have Google Wave open for everyone. Would love to try this application. Well, thanks for sharing this info with us.
By: Success910 days ago I watched the Google Wave presentation by thw two inventors. It is definitely a cool product and has many nice features that would take the communication via the web to a new exciting level. I am sure it will take some time before the product matures and but once it adopted it would become the standard the way Google search has become. I am more impressed with the story of these two brother Lars and Jen how they decided to take risk and give it another shot to make this as their startup. I wish them all the best. Waiting on the shorelines for the Google wave! By: Dhruv915 days ago |
