Canon's New Hybrid Image Stabilization TechnologyImaging technologies are on a road to advancement. Recently, we discussed about FujiFilm FinePix 3D Digital Camera that has opened up a new chapter in the evolution of photography. Canon, another camera and imaging product major, recently introduced a Hybrid Image Stabilizer technology. This is world's first of its kind optical image stabilization technology that can counter balance both camera shake and shift camera shake. Canon will roll this technology out in its next SLR (Single Lens Reflex) this year. Image stabilization problems can frustrate even the professional photographers. This news should give them something to look forward to. Effectiveness of the technology is yet to be seen however Canon claims this will allow photographers to capture perfect to pixel photos by fighting off any surprises caused by camera shakes. As per the press release, Canon has been working on image stabilization technologies for many years. The company boasts about being the first one to introduce optical camera shake stabilization feature way back in 1995. The new Hybrid Image Stabilization (IS) is a result of company's continued R&D in this space. The earlier image stabilization technologies only utilized an angel based camera shake sensor. The Hybrid IS technique uses another sensor that detects the amount of shift-based camera shake. Taking the input from the two sensors, a processing unit quickly calculates the amount of adjustment to counter the shake. Having two sensors at the job improves the image stabilization dramatically not just in general photography but also in macro shots. |
