Cell Phone vs. Laptop Charging - A Comparison

Battery is like the heart and soul of a mobile phone or laptop. You need to feed it right, not over charge it so the device gives you an extended life. Whether it is a cell phone or a laptop, you need to be very careful in charging the battery. Below we discuss some simple tips that can keep your favorite device going for longer duration.

Cell phone is the device that lets you not only make calls or receive but also lets you do a variety of things with it. Certain care should be taken when recharging your cell phone battery, such as:

  • Use of original chargers and specific charger timing: Generally avoid too much of charging time that is the cell phone should not be discharged every 24 hours. More you charge the device; more are the dangers that the battery will be damaged.
  • After buying a new cell phone always pay attention towards the charge cycle. It’s only after three to four complete charge-discharge cycle that the battery gets a good beginning and works well in future.
  • Nickel Cadmium batteries have memory feature so before recharging always remember that the power is run out completely and do not cut the power during recharging. Lithium Hydrogen batteries have no memory and can be charged freely.
  • Avoid using universal charger: There are chargers available in the markets which charge any mobile handset irrespective of the handset’s name. There is no specific requirement in this method. Remember every handset has some definite specifications which need not to be messed around, hence use the original charger which is provided along with the mobile handset.

The best way to save mobile handset’s battery is to switch off Bluetooth or other mobile software that continuously eat your battery and are not in usage.

Laptops:

Some maintenance steps are normal for laptops just as they were with cell phones. Some other could be:

  • Never drain the laptop battery to shut down or recharge it to 100 percent. The best way is to keep a 98-20 percent cycle. That is, recharge the battery up to 98 percent and discharge it to only 20 percent not more than that in any case.
  • The lithium battery has some memory and is very sensitive to the environmental conditions such as temperature and how often the laptop is used. Try to protect your battery from getting damaged by over charging it.
  • Avoid leaving the laptop in stand by mode and charging for too long. This will damage the charger more than doing something good.

Whether it’s a laptop or a mobile handset, charging should be limited. Battery life is inversely proportional to the number of charge-discharge cycles. It is not advisable to use a mobile phone when charging whereas a laptop can be used easily without any danger while charging. Moreover, trying to operate a mobile phone or laptop in less charge is never preferable. The batteries get affected very often. Just take care of the batteries and devices will take care of themselves!
