Google Android, the mobile phone operating system from the search giant, is approaching Indian shores in style. HTC got the credit for being the first mobile maker to launch android powered HTC Magic phone in India. All major mobile brands like Samsung, LG, and Motorola are lining up their android mobile launches. There were rumors of Nokia too joining the android bandwagon but Nokia so far has denied any such plans.

Samsung's android phone Galaxy is expected to hit the Indian market next month. The challengers from LG and Motorola should follow by December this year. The first wave of android phones in India will be targeted for urban youth. Google expects that as the android platform gains ground in India more companies will introduce their android mobiles thereby expanding the price-range and the reach of the handheld.

So far here are the android mobile phones that have landed in India or are abound to make the grand landing.

In the US, T-Mobile MyTouch 3G the Google android powered device will go on sale soon. HTC is leading the Android phones family expansion in the US market as well. The Taiwanese company has many Androids in the making for various mobile service carriers in the US.

Android being a free and open-source based mobile operating system is expected to attract many mobile manufacturers who are trying to compete with powerhouses Apple and RIM. A free OS means they can price their phones very competitively giving consumers cheaper alternatives. In developing markets such as India, Android phones are expected to do better than other mature markets. We can also expect many India based mobile brands to spring up to grab a share of the pie in their own backyards.

Google's Android marketplace gives android phone owners access to thousands of free applications that they can download and install on their phones. They also get Google maps, GTalk, Calendar, YouTube, GMail, and Google Docs to do more with the smartphones.
