How large or thin can a TV get

Home> Blogs> Tech TolMol> How large or thin can a TV get

Televisions have gone slim. Yes, they have grown larger in size. But one wonders how much more thin these blade-thin displays can become. How much more screen space they can offer. A simple answer may be that these televisions won't grow beyond the walls of your living room. And that they can get thinner only to a point where they don't go invisible. But seriously, have we hit the size and thickness limit?

Samsung LED TV

TV brands seems to be stuck at 65" TVs. Samsung 8000 Series LED TVs offer 65" large screen. Interestingly, the screen size in Samsung 9000 Series LED TVs shrunk to 55". Looks like that's how far Samsung's popular LED TV technology can go. On the thickness side, however, Samsung is making huge progress. Samsung 9000 Series LED TVs are just 0.3" thick. That's amazing! But can TV depth be razed off more. Can TVs go from being blade-thin to fine film-like?

For last few years, the TV manufacturers have been chasing TV size and slimness limits. Each aspiring to offer the largest and thinnest TV model. With the evolution of LED TVs, the battle have become very aggressive. But the technology does have its limits. What's beyond 0.3"? What's beyond 65"? Would we continue on the same size and weight reduction path or change course and get 3D heavy? The 3D TV hype have caught quite well. With a flood of new 3D movies, it's likely that 3D televisions are tomorrow's mainstream televisions. A far stretched possibility is that Televisions will become thin like a film that can spread on the wall. But then would we still call them televisions?
