At a time when Android based smartphones are already the largest selling models, LG has decided to make the life of others a lot harder. The Asian electronics giant is all set to launch LG Optimus also called LG GT540, an entry level Android smartphone. This model is going to have all the cool and impressive features and capabilities which ensure the popularity of Android phones, and also make sure that users especially the first timer can enjoy these at a very reasonable and cost-effective price.

Designed to keep it sleek, LG Optimus has gorgeous eye-candy appearance. To add to the usual black and white options the phone is also available in cool pink and silver colors. Since it also has a big display with impressive resolution, from the looks of it its low price comes as a pleasant surprise to one all. And when one adds LG’s own technology and features, and Android and Google’s edge, the smartphone seems capable of being as good as you would want it to be.

LG Optimus runs on Android 1.6 operating system but that is not at all a worry considering it can be upgraded to the latest 2.1 version without any issues. Even its hardware is also quite impressive and helps it be a great mobile phone and one of the most impressive and desirable entry-level smartphones.

Since the LG Optimus uses Android, this gives it a lot of capabilities and offers many options to the users to customize the phone using innumerable applications and other features. Google applications like Gmail, Gtalk, YouTube and Google Maps can be right away accessed using active widgets from the home screen of the phone itself. And what’s more, the Android market itself has more than 30,000 applications which you can download on to your mobile phone.

Focusing on its home screen, LG Optimus gives you two broader options, one is the Android home screen and other one is LG’s own range of home screens designed for its Cookie series. You can opt for 3 to 7 screens and use your preference to personalize the same as LG allows you to work around 10 editable categories.

The other cool feature of the latest LG offering is its Social Networking Manager. LG’s own Social Networking Client is basically a common platform where you can access your different social networking accounts, be it Facebook, Twitter or even Bebo.

As you would expect from a smartphone or any mobile phone for that matter, LG Optimus has a 3 MP camera with all the desirable features like face detection and geo-tagging. As a matter of fact it also features face-to-action technology. It means that you can use the inbuilt video editor and the storyboard function to add say music or text to the video that you have recorded on the phone itself.

Completing the phone are other features like ability to play DivX and Xvid without the need for separate encoding, 3D thumbnail gallery, Bluetooth 2.1, expandable memory and a long lasting battery life. On a whole with Otimus, LG has a very strong chance of capturing a huge chunk of the entry level smartphone market.
