Mobile Application DownloadsMobile applications are manufacturer or community developed software programs that, when installed, infuse new capability into your mobile phones. They only work on smartphones not on traditional mobile handsets. If you bought a new mobile phone in last one or so year, it's highly likely that Mobile makers have come to realize the importance of mobile apps after witnessing the meteoric rise of Apple iPhone's popularity. Apple didn't just offer a smart and sexy looking phone, along it gave the App Store - an equally exciting application store house. App Store is a place where developers could upload and promote their iPhone apps on. A mega collection of software programs that iPhone users can download for free or by paying nominal charge. It's amazing how the App Store caught on with developers and users alike. Its popularity can be sensed by the fact that it already offers whopping 50,000+ apps to choose and download from, and this number is only increasing. There are Apple iPhone apps for virtually everything - from managing your exercise regime or shopping lists to mobile banking or pure entertainment. Nokia too launched Ovi Store, to counter the rise of Apple's App Store, for Nokia phone applications. The store was re-launched just a few months back so doesn't have too many applications as yet however it holds a lot of promise. Nokia is world's number 1 mobile phone seller, it goes without saying that in coming months there will be a flurry of applications making to Nokia Ovi Store. At the moment Nokia Ovi Store offers about 1000 applications for download. Research in Motion, that sells more BlackBerry smartphone units than the number of iPhones Apple ships out, is also tanking up its App World. Apple's app store would be tough to defeat but RIM is doing everything to woo developers to create more useful apps for BlackBerry users. Palm that recently released much hyped Palm Pre smartphone for some reason hasn't fully opened up to app developers. The company must be looking to moderate the quality of applications by enforcing an approval process on the developers. Since writing Palm Pre applications is relatively easier, the number of available apps may shoot up soon. LG hasn't done much in this department. There are only a couple of LG mobile applications on its website. TolMol Popular Mobiles |
