The heated competition among mobile makers has made these tiny devices better and smarter. Every mobile manufacturer wants to stand out by offering something that other doesn't. By offering more at less. The line between a phone and a smart phone is blurring fast. Apple and RIM hold the major share of the smartphone market. The eye candy Apple iPhone and the professional icon RIM Blackberry are the frontrunners in the race to mobile future. However mobile phone makers like Nokia, Samsung, LG, HTC, Palm, and Motorola are not going to sit back and watch Apple and Research in Motion take over the mobile world. They have brought their horses into the racecourse. There are rumors that even Dell might make a surprise entry. The ambitions are running high and so is the innovation which has caused a flood of new smartphones in the market. The recently launched Palm Pre is said to be the closest competitor to iPhone and Blackberry whereas N97 is being hailed as a solid start by Nokia. Samsung Omnia is polishing its face as well. We can expect many more smartphones hitting the stores in coming weeks and months. Apple iPhone and RIM Blackberry may be dream products however their sky high price tags have kept an ordinary consumer away from them. Nokia and Samsung are vying for their place by offering cheap alternatives to these iconic smartphones. The field as they say lies wide open for low cost smart phones. However, what's becoming increasingly critical is the speed, performance, and the supported applications. Consumers want touch screens that don't hang up. They want internet connectivity that can stream vidoes, upload files in snaps. Above all they want a rich choice of applications that can enhance the capabilities of their mobile devices.
