Mobile Ringtones? What is a ringtone? Simply defined, a ringtone is a small part of a popular song or music (hopefully melodic!) that plays when your phone rings to signal an incoming call or text (except when you have put your phone on vibrate mode, there will be no ringtone). More and more people are now using ringtones to make their phone appear (or rather sound) unique.
The usage of ringtones is growing in all the directions. Go to any university campus and you will hear short music coming out of mobile phones around you and yes it is probably the magic of ringtones from mobile phones not from a music player. Youngsters are looking to download the latest ringtones on their mobile and shopping for some cool cheap deals to buy. The mobile handset companies are also using the custom ringtone trend to their benefit by offering multiple options to the consumers. These companies are promoting this feature to attract more mobile users and highlighting this feature. Even though there are many websites that offer free ringtone downloads but your favourite ones might no longer be free. Many people complain that these websites claiming to offer free ringtones usually have a hidden cost or at times quality of the song is not that good. More and more websites are now offering ringtones for small amount, and the ringtone industry indeed has become a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. Many people wonder what's the big deal about the ringtones, why people use them? I guess people especially youth use ringtones to make a personal statement and a personalized ringtone on the mobile enables them to accomplish that goal. When they are sitting with their friends and their phone rings, it should not be just any other ringtone but should be the song or music of their own choice. The music or the song being played probably allows them to express their taste and make a style statement among their friends or even to those around them in public places . And there is already a talk of ultrasonic ringtones that play at a higher frequency than the normal tones and I learnt that they can only be heard by people under the age of 20. Now that is called the use of technology to your benefit!
How do you get or download ringtone on your phone? The most common way is to download from your PC or if you have WAP enabled phone then download directly on your phone from a website offering ringtones. From a PC it is easy to download ringtones. You can do it by infrared transfer, use a bluetooth, memory card transfer or USB cable. The ringtones are available for download in mp3, wav, and m4r (iphone) format. With growing popularity of mp3 format and wide range of music choice available, more and more people are now going for MP3 ringtones. There are more options and it has become easier to download from your computer. In order for your mp3 ringtone to work all you need is a mobile phone that can play mp3 and also support custom ringtones. You will also need an editing software to edit your mp3 format song to make it short enough (usually a few seconds) to use it as a ringtone. All the well-known brands like Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola support customizable ringtones. So the next time your mobile phone/cell phone rings you and people around you need not listen to the boring and ubiquitous ringtone from your cellphone. You can hopefully entertain your friends everytime you get a call! Got ringtone?
