Nokia has been synonymous to mobile phones for the company has been laser focused on building and selling mobile phones to the world. Despite all the noise surrounding Nokia smartphones, the giant continues to be the number 1 mobile company on the planet. And, today it's in news not for any of its mobile phones but for a brand new gift - A Netbook - A Nokia Booklet 3G. That's right. As of Aug 24, 2009, Nokia joins the battalion of netbook makers.

Nokia Booklet 3G

Apple, Nokia's top mobile phone competitor, will now have to compete at "netbook" scale as well. The mobile maker is bringing its mobility muscle to personal computing. Nokia Booklet 3G may redefine the netbook capabilities and how we use them.

Long Battery Life

Promising a marathon battery that can last for up to 12 hours, Nokia Booklet 3G stands out among other netbook options. Unless Apple comes out with a Tablet PC that runs non-stop for 24 hours on its battery, this netbook provides a compelling reason for shoppers to take it seriously. They can forget about the power cord when stepping out of home or office and still be connected with their world. They can board a long flight and be entertained (or productive if they choose so) all the way.

Connectivity Options

Nokia Booklet 3G offers a plethora of connectivity options. Thanks to Nokia's mobility history, you can enjoy broadband internet access via 3G, HSPA, or Wi-Fi.

Users can also connect to Nokia's rich Ovi services to get more out of their mini notebooks. Watch movies, play unlimited music, indulge in video games, or simply surf the net. The HDMI port lets Nokia Booklet 3G connect to a High Definition TV.

The connectivity features are likely to include many modes of handshake between Nokia mobiles and netbooks. Users will be able to copy data from their Nokia phones to Nokia netbook and vice-versa conviniently. The new netbook may make the line between smartphones and laptops more blurred.

Weight and Dimensions

The sleek Booklet 3G weighs just 1.25 kg (same as Wipro e.go netbook). With thickness of 2 cm, this has managed to be among the lightest laptops.

Body & Display

The display of Nokia Booket 3G is being compared with that of Apple MacBook. Its 10 inch HD display is made of glass just like that of MacBook. Again, like MacBook, Nokia Booklet is encased in a perfect finish alumnium chasis. But the two will get compared even without these similarities.

The Booklet 3G, like most netbooks, uses Intel Atom processor. Since Nokia's press release claims to bring PC's productivity into its netbook, the mini may come with more than 1GB RAM. It also supports a web camera for video chatting. Other features include an integrated Bluetooth, SD card reader, and A-GPS.

The complete features and specifications will be announced in Nokia's World Event on September 2, so wait for an update in this section.

Looks mobile phone manufacturers are becoming laptop manufacturer and vice versa! It would be interesting to see who take over who. I guess it a marketing startegy to keep the competitors busy in their own space so that they don't threaten their core business. Best of luck Nokia!
