What makes Samsung LED TVs popular?

Samsung is the biggest TV brand in the world. The biggest is not necessarily the best however Samsung does stay ahead of its competition in the television technologies and compels consumers to upgrade to them. While 2009 has been a year of deep recession for many businesses around the globe, Samsung’s TV sales didn’t look backward. Samsung made this possible by introducing super thin and energy efficient high definition LED TVs, and by launching an aggressive marketing campaign around it.

As Samsung saw the profits dipping for the first generation flat-panel LCD televisions, it did something its competitors, viz. Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic, missed to do. Without wasting any time, the South Korean electronics stalwart ramped up its LED edge-lit LCD TV production. Originally, this new line of Samsung TVs was dubbed as Luxia because it was designed to be a luxury brand. But soon Samsung rebranded them as LED TVs and successfully marketed the technological superiority and the energy savings of LED televisions.

The LED TV is the standard LCD TV that uses LED (light emitting diodes) for producing images on the screen. The row of LEDs is placed on all the edges of the TV screen. This technology enables manufacturers to build razor thin screens. The LEDs produce more uniform light making the pictures look bright and stunning. LEDs also consume less power and are eco-friendly compared to florescent light used in earlier LCD TVs. These advantages of Samsung LED TVs and the lack of competition in this space helped Samsung rule 2009. Consumers who like to be the first to adopt new technologies were quick to upgrade their TV sets. The high price of Samsung LED TVs did not deter them.

Today, Samsung controls over 50% of the share of LED TV market. The competition is expected to grow as electronics giants like Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic etc. come out with their LED TV lineup in 2010. We’ll see what that does to the popularity of Samsung LED TVs but for now they are the clear champions.

Samsung LED TV is setting new expectations for the TV viewers. The company has taken strong lead over its rivals. In a very short span, Samsung managed to drive buyers in its favor but 2010 will tell how it positions itself against Sony and the likes.
