What's New in Firefox 8
Mozilla has recently launched an updated version of its Firefox browser.Christened as ‘Aurora’, it has generated a lot of traffic since its release. Thenumber of downloads for the browser from the Mozilla website have beenstaggering. This is not simply because that it is just another version andpeople have gone crazy over it because of the hype. In fact, the browserhas a lot of new features which make it a hot proposition to make it as yourdefault browser in your machine. Let us discuss some of them in detail. (Buy Computers)These days, a natural trend in web-browsers is of "less is more"—less spacetaken up by the browser frame and controls and more space for Web pages. The page tabs have moved above the address bar, and, as with Opera 11.5,there's just a single menu option in the form of the orange Firefox buttonat top left. You can re-enable the standard menus by hitting the Alt key.The Home button has moved to the right of the search bar, and a bookmarkbutton appears to the right of that. That bookmark button only appearswhen you don't want the bookmark toolbar taking up browser window space. This gives you one-click access to frequently needed Web addresses. Youcan still call up the full bookmark manager, which lets you do things likeimporting bookmarks from other browsers, search, and organize. This way,one can switch back to ‘controls on top’ if one is comfortable with the oldstyle; else the new style is always enabled by default to amaze you!Only few browsers still use separate search and address boxes, and Firefoxis one of them. Some people have the knack of keeping search separatefrom address bar and so separate search box is useful for them. However,in the Firefox 8, search would work in the address bar too. Interestingly, theaddress bar which drops down suggestions from your history and favoriteswhenever you start typing was first introduced by Firefox. Other browsersshamelessly copied this feature into their browsers.Another change is that when one of its suggested sites is already openin a tab, you can click on a "Switch to tab" link, preventing you fromopening more tabs unnecessarily. Firefox supports OpenSearch format. Thismeans better searching experience while doing search related to shopping, reference or social. Further, Firefox has added Twitter as an option in thesearch locales dropdown box. One more welcome change is the way add-ons from third party programs are installed. Firefox is now disabling add-onsinstalled by third parties without permission and asking the user to choosewhich should be enabled. Third-party add-ons are disabled by default. Thenew Firefox also has a better WebGL support. The new Firefox also hasbetter performance when it comes to playing Flash content. Just try ‘Aurora’(Firefox 8) once to get a taste of it.
