Laptop, Netbook, Tablet PC, or a Smartphone?

Laptops, Notebooks, Netbooks, Tablets, and Smartphone - from what I read are all in a war to find their footing. They all make compelling buying cases.

For example, Nokia N97, BlackBerry, Spice Mobile, Apple iPhone, Palm Pre etc. are sold amid tall claims that they let you do everything you want a laptop to do. A Tablet PC claims that you need a bigger screen than what a mobile phone offers. A Netbook claims, you need a mobile phone but you also need a feature rich, light, and economical mini laptop for your computing needs. A Laptop or a Notebook questions, why settle for a slow computer, buy a high performance laptop by spending little more.

You are left totally confused wondering what exactly you want. Here is what I recommend:

1. Buy a smartphone, you need it. It's a communication device that is handy all the time no matter where you are. On top of communication, it can entertain you and allow you to access web.
2. If you not planning to use a computer for programming, computer aid design, or other running large applications, buy a small netbook. There are plenty of options. Check this Netbook Brands guide.
3. Buy a laptop only if you plan to use it for more just web browsing, gaming, watching movies, documenting, and emailing.
4. Tablet PCs, I think, are for kids unless Apple comes out with something earth-shattering.

Not all that confusing, is it?
