Job Interview TipsShining in a job interview can be easier if one follows some basic rules. Here are some lightinterview tips that you might find worth a read.
1. Keep Mobile Off You may have the latest and greatest mobile phone in the world, loaded with sweet sounding Bollywood tunes – wisdom still lies in keeping it off. 2. Know Your Career Objective You better know the career objective you have mentioned in the resume. When asked to clarify, don’t say – What? Where? Oh! That? My friend wrote it for me. 3. Know the Employer If asked what you knew about the company you are getting interviewed for, don’t say that you were too busy to check the company website out – everyone knows that it’s a plain lie. 4. Avoid Repetition Don’t start with your name all over again when asked to share more about yourself in the middle of the interview – avoid sounding like a rewound cassette or a nursery kid. 5. Accept Weak Areas If you have trouble understanding English accept it up front – don’t answer “In Gurgaon” when asked “where do you want to be after two years” or “Learning Java” when asked “How you are doing?” 6. Control those Butterflies Being nervous is natural accepting it openly may put you at ease – reaching out for a glass of water at every question should be the last option. 7. Avoid being Overfriendly Don’t offer a movie ticket to the interviewer if by any chance he shares that he too, like you, enjoys watching movies – it’s too early to become overfriendly. You’ll get plenty of time to do that later if you do get the offer. 8. Display Confidence If you have had a break in your career, don’t say that you weren’t sure about your future unless you can answer the next obvious question – “What makes you so sure now?” 9. Don’t Contradict Yourself Don’t ask “So, how much will you pay?” early on in the interview process when you have given “better work” as the primary reason for your job change. You won’t sound greedy if you instead accept that you are looking for a better salary. 10. Honesty Helps Demonstrating confidence is good but not when you don’t know the answer – remember that the honesty and sincerity guard your better. 11. Behave Professionally Don’t start throwing yourself all over if you think the interview is going in your favor – at least, until you get the offer in hands, it’s safer to keep the excitement or overexcitement bottled up. 12. Ask Intelligent Questions This is your chance to make an impression and showcase your capabilities don’t spoil it by asking questions like - how many other candidates you are interviewing? Your questions should be more on what’s there in store for you in terms of role and responsibilities. Finally, display high level of professionalism no matter how the interview goes! 3 replies
