Dussehra Gift Ideas

Dussehra(Dasara and Vijayadashmi for many) falls on 9th October this Year. Like every year, this time too most would have drawn up celebration plans in advance.

Whichever name you call it by and whichever part of India(or World!), you celebrate it in, it symbolizes the triumph of Good Over Evil. People hailing from the Northern part of India, burn effigies of Ravana, his giant brother Kumbhkarna and son Meghnad, to commemorate Lord Ram's victory on this day. Whereas, in Southern, Eastern and Western India, the day marks the culmination of the festival of Navratri. Vijayadashami(as many in these parts call it) commemorates the legend in which the Goddess Durga, also known as Chamundeshwari or Mahishasura Mardini, vanquishes the demon Mahishasura.

Dasara is considered to be an auspicious day to begin new things in life and many people inaugurate new vehicles, machines, books, weapons and tools by ceremonially asking God to bless the new items.

Dussehra and Vijayadashmi are also the occassion when one seeks the blessings of one's elders. Its a time honoured tradition to greet all your near and dear ones and exchange gifts.

Dussehra is also the occassion when people like to deck themselves up in fineries. So gifting your loved ones some traditional Indian apparel makes perfect sense.
